WHY SECURITY IN FILM?
Think about it - you've been an X-Man, a crime scene investigator, Spencer Reid with the BAU, a cop in the SVU. We've all been investigators, crime solvers, and at some points, even criminals - all from the comfort of our sofa.
We've all watched a show and seen the problem, gathered the data, found the leak, established and executed a solution. There's also the well-known stereotype that women watch crime shows for comfort - this isn't surprising, as women make fantastic analysts.
Security is part of our everyday life, whether we recognise that we're doing it or not:
Locking doors and windows before leaving the house/ office
Being cautious about what we click or download
Fastening our seatbelts
Stranger danger awareness.
We are constantly observing, problem-solving and risk mitigating as part of our everyday existence. And we all love to watch a show and break it down: what went right, what went wrong, and what we would do better. It's how we socialise, communicate, and build a profile of those around us.
If we can trace back to how we were introduced to security and how we implement it every day, it could ignite our passion for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
So why not through entertainment? We're already security analysts every time we watch a thriller and think "don't go in there alone" or notice when a character makes a decision that puts everyone at risk. This blog just gives a name to the thinking we're already doing and shows how those same instincts apply to digital security, workplace safety, and everyday risk assessment.
